What is the LPI? How Bellipo Measures Insider Selling Pressure
When a lockup expires, billions in insider shares become eligible for sale. But not every lockup creates the same selling pressure. The Lockup Pressure Index (LPI) is Bellipo's proprietary metric that measures how much downward pressure a lockup expiration is likely to create — before it happens.
What is BellipoBellipo is the first platform built entirely around the IPO lifecycle — from S-1 filing to first trade, lockup expiration, and beyond. We deliver real-time pipeline tracking, AI-powered S-1 briefs, and proprietary demand scoring, plus precision alerts: PING fires when pricing becomes official — typically the evening before trading, occasionally the morning of, always before the open — carrying the final offer price. STRIKE fires the instant the first trade prints. Retail investors get to prepare for IPO day with the same intelligence institutions take for granted.
Learn moreWhy Not All Lockups Are Equal
A company where 80% of outstanding shares are locked up faces a very different expiration than one where 30% are locked. Similarly, a stock trading 50% above its IPO price creates different incentives for insiders than one trading below its IPO price.
LPI combines multiple factors to produce a single pressure score.

What LPI Measures
- • Lockup overhang — what percentage of total shares outstanding are locked
- • Price performance — how far above or below IPO price the stock trades
- • Insider incentives — how long insiders have held shares and at what cost basis
- • Historical patterns — how similar companies behaved at lockup expiration
- • Volume signals — trading volume changes in the days leading up to expiration
LPI in Practice
A high LPI (70+) means significant selling pressure is expected — insiders are motivated to sell, the overhang is large, and historical patterns suggest a price decline. A low LPI (below 30) suggests insiders are likely to hold — the stock is performing well, the overhang is manageable, and insiders have signaled retention.
LPI is available on Bellipo Terminal Pro for every IPO in the ORBIT stage. It updates daily as lockup expiration approaches.
